Responsibility is one of our core values, and for us, it primarily means tangible everyday actions in our daily operations concerning environmental, economic, and social responsibilities. We continuously strive to enhance our responsibility with passionately creative and innovative actions while also setting a good example for others.

We have signed the UN Global Compact initiative and are committed to adhering to its 10 principles regarding human rights, the environment, labor, and anti-corruption.

Environmental Responsibility

As a hotel operator, we understand our impact on the environment and strive to reduce environmental effects in all aspects of our operations. When procuring all products and services, we prioritize local, responsible suppliers with high-quality, durable products made from sustainable materials.

We work closely with our downstairs partner, Restaurant Albina, which practices responsible operations and also serves our breakfast. Both our selection and that of Restaurant Albina offer plenty of options for vegetarians and vegans.

  • Materials

    We strive to use recyclable wood, cardboard, and other eco-friendly materials instead of plastic. For example, our key cards are made of wood, and their card holders are made of cardboard. We reuse both of these.

  • We minimize the use and procurement of single-use materials and offer our guests free, fresh spring water, both sparkling and still, which we encourage them to enjoy instead of bottled water.

  • Art

    Our hotel’s art procurement has utilized Finnish, local artists. The collaboration brings a unique and authentic look to our spaces, and at the same time, we support the local art community. For example, Billebeino, the Konepaja artist community, and Laura Itkonen have created artworks for our premises. Our historical building also features restored art made by VR’s employees.

  • Minimizing Energy Consumption

    Our hotel’s electricity is 100% renewable energy. We also minimize our energy consumption daily by using energy-efficient lighting and heating systems, as well as high-quality, energy-saving electrical appliances.

Economic Responsibility

We are committed to continuously improving our operations in an economically sustainable manner. We also support the local economy by favoring local producers in our procurement.
